Status, in one line
Iberville Parish (Plaquemine and the Atchafalaya Basin area) is on the eligible-parish list for the grant lottery, but the most recent 2026 round has closed with no new round announced yet. The statewide tax credit and the mandatory insurance discount don't depend on a round being open, so those are worth acting on now if you're re-roofing regardless.
The grant lottery — eligible, but currently closed
Iberville Parish is one of 25 parishes eligible for the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) grant lottery, which pays up to $10,000 toward an IBHS FORTIFIED Roof upgrade when a round is open. The most recent round ran June 1–19, 2026 and has since closed. Get on the alert list at FortifyHomes.La.Gov to be notified when the next round opens — there's no current application to submit.
What's actually available in Iberville Parish right now
- FORTIFIED Roof Tax Credit — a nonrefundable state income tax credit up to $10,000 for retrofitting your primary residence to the FORTIFIED Roof standard, available statewide regardless of parish or lottery status. You pay for the roof, then claim it at tax time. Sunsets December 31, 2031.
- Mandatory insurance discount — under Louisiana Department of Insurance Regulation 136, every insurer must discount the hurricane portion of your premium once your home is FORTIFIED-certified, regardless of how you got there.
You can't claim both the grant and the tax credit on the same roof — but since the grant lottery isn't currently open in Iberville Parish, the tax credit is the path actually available to you today if you're re-roofing now.
